About Dea Hoover

I became a Tour Director over 26 years ago because I wanted to see the world and share it with others, eventually starting Are We There Yet? Tours in 2005. During the pandemic, however, I was stuck at home, my suitcase collecting dust rather than souvenirs. Fortunately I was asked to write a book for Reedy Press, and my expertise and my unexpected free time meant I was the perfect person to write STL Scavenger, a bestseller in St. Louis! The first in a series of scavenger hunt books by Reedy Press, STL Scavenger takes people on a journey through the many neighborhoods and towns in the St Louis area, helping them discover exciting things in locations new and old. And people did - STL Scavenger was a number one bestseller in the STL area and spent weeks on the bestseller list!

I then wrote two Walk Through History books that encourage people to explore Hermann, the most German town in Missouri, and Hannibal, more than just Mark Twain's hometown. With colorful pictures and interesting stories, these books can be enjoyed as a walking tour or from the comfort of your own home, giving you a virtual overview of these wonderful little towns.

In addition to writing, I also own two tour companies. Discover St. Louis Tours is the oldest tour company in St. Louis and I am proud to be the third woman owner. My outbound company Are We There Yet? tours offers both day trips and overnight tours across the country and around the world - from Ireland to Australia to Africa and to Japan. We've even been to Antarctica!
